The town of Carentan was a primary goal for the paratroopers and the US troops landed who at Omaha and Utah Beach. US troops finally took Carentan on June 12, 1944 but were blocked in Donville by the SS 17th Panzer Division Grenader, the paratroopers of the 6th regiment called “green devils. “So it was a bloody battle that ensued at Donville mansion. The Germans were pushed back several times by the Americans.Donville Manor was the site of extremely violent fighting between German and American soldiers from 12 to 17 June 1944. Many relics have remained buried in the ground or were hidden in homes for over 70 years. Come and discover the remains of material left by the soldiers on both sides and the testimony of civilians who survived the battle.
