This is a big museum with a large shop, with a great collection of books and model kits. It takes around two to three hours to do properly. Starting off with a modern approach to the telling of how WW2 started and the impact it had on the citizens of Normandy, you are then thrown into the action of D-day and its aftermath. With an interactive learning experience about the paratroopers who landed on D-day and the help they received from the French resistance. You then get to surround yourself with the equipment of all forces, an incredible D-day beach display with sound to help immerse yourself into what it was like for the US soldiers coming up the beach. Take note of an impressive tiny detail in the cabinet in front of the beach display, at the left-hand side is the timetable for the Omaha beach landing showing the often-overlooked preparations for the Normandy landings. Then the museum continues into the battle for Normandy, with British and Canadian displays before getting into some unique German equipment, such as the tank repair station and the part-built Panther Tank. Then there is a display about the enormity of the logistics that were required by the Allies to be able to clear the beachhead and liberate the rest of Europe. Finally, as you end your time at the museum you are led down a path with incredible personal stories from the men and women that fought in Normandy, there as some really moving pieces that are well worth a read.
